The Psalm of Mary, Mother of Jesus - as Leigh Hears It

The Magnificat!

Luke 1:46-55

Not all of Israel's Psalms are found in the book of Psalms. There are some throughout the books of the Bible. This Psalm is found in the book of Luke. It was sung by Mary to her cousin Elizabeth when John the Baptist was still in utero and leaped for joy at Mary's calling when she visited them.

~*~

Mary, singing from her heart of hearts:

Deep within my soul, I celebrate God's glory,

and my spirit rejoices in God, My Savior.
For He has seen where I live, in all of my lowliness
and humility:
and yet, because of His mighty acts,
I will forever be proclaimed as blessed. Therefore, I will ever praise His name, giving Him all the glory and honor He is due.

May His mercy fall on all who fear,
honor and respect Him throughout eternity.
For He has shown His dominion over all
on earth by scattering those whose innermost
thoughts are filled with pride;
even those who rule from their lofty seats
has He brought low.
He has lifted up the humble,
raising them from their humility.
He has filled the hungry in body and soul
with every good thing.
But the rich - those who seem satisfied
in body and soul - has He sent away empty-handed.

Yes, God has embraced Israel once more,
for He has remembered His mercy -
His loving kindness - and His promised pardon
to Abraham and his descendants throughout all time.

Amen!

Psalms 27, verses 7-14

A Psalm of David and of Leigh, Continued

A Passionate Declaration of Faith

Hear me, O Lord, when I am yelling out in anguish: and have mercy on me when You answer.

For you said, "seek My face;" and my heart answered, "Lord, Your face I will ever seek and that earnestly. So hide not Your face from me. Do not turn this servant away in Your anger. You have been my help, Lord. Do not leave me or disown me; for You alone are the God of my Salvation."

Even if my own parents were to reject and disown me, I know that You will pick me up in Your everlasting arms and care for me. So teach me all of Your ways, Lord, and lead me in that Narrow Path because of my enemies.

Do not deliver me into the hands of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen against me. They speak of doing such cruel and violent things against me. I would have fainted had I not trusted in You, believing in Your goodness that I see poured out here in our community of believers.

So I will wait on You and for You, Lord. I will remain courageous and You will strengthen my heart if I should falter while I wait. Yes, I will wait on and for You, my Lord!

Psalms Twenty Seven, verses 1-6

A Psalm of David and of Leigh

A Passionate Declaration of Faith

Lord, it is You that gives my life light and purpose. You have saved me; whom shall I fear? It is You that I draw the strength of my life from; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked - enemies of my body and soul - advance against me to consume me from without and within at the same time, they tripped and fell face first in the dirt. Even if their entire armies should try to lay siege against me, I will not fear ... even in my heart of hearts I will remain at peace. And if war does break out all around me, I am confident in this one thing:

I have only desired one thing from You, my Lord, and that will I continually seek after: that You will dwell within my heart of hearts all the days of my life so that I may constantly look upon Your beautiful face, to seek You and study Your ways within Your holy Temple - my very soul - forevermore.

For when I am in trouble, You secret me away and hide me; wrapping me up in Your protective arms of Love; You set me high upon the Rock of my Salvation, even Jesus!

So shall I lift my head up above those enemies who gather round about me for my destruction: I will also offer my sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving in Your holy temple, yes even my heart of hearts! I will ever sing songs if joy to You my Lord ... my King!

Amen!
